Motherboards and peppers

Add to Memories Share
Kind of got out of the habit of journaling--more so than usual--since my laptop died on me. I just bought another used on on eBay. It's the same model--a Dell Inspiron 1501--with a couple of problems--no hard drive and a smashed lcd screen. That's fine by me, since mine has a working screen and hard drive, just something really wrong with the motherboard.

Let the record show that today, Dec. 20, I have planted my first batch of bell pepper seeds and some 200 bulbils of Romanian hardneck garlic.

A wrench in the works

Add to Memories Share
So! Last year, I grew a melon called Sakata's Sweet, and I loved them. At the end of the season, I had one overripe melon left, and I saved the seeds. This spring I planted them. A ton came up, they grew beautifully, and it was not until a month ago that I realized there was a big problem.
None of these things are Sakatas... )

The Prescott Post

Add to Memories Share

I'm growing an especially chichi melon this year, an heirloom type called Prescott Fond Du Blanc. It was definitely an impulse buy. I'm sure it had all kinds of blurbs endorsing its flavor and sweetness and rarity, but what sold me was its looks. My god, this melon is so ugly it's awesome.
But all the catalogs call it 'Beautiful' )

The Shelterbelt Report

Add to Memories Share
This year I decided to sneak out beyond my usual boundaries, and plant some flowers and vegetables in the shelterbelt behind out house. The results have been interesting, kind of educational, but not really a success.
